Thanks for visiting My Mango Has Roots! I began blogging in 2010 during my early days of real cooking. Growing up, I was a junk-food junkie, eating bags of Cheetos and boxes of SnackWell’s cakes daily. My mom would cook up a nice solid dinner for the family, but breakfast, lunch, and snacks I would successfully sabotage on my own.  In high school and college, and even in my first apartment away from the nest, the closest thing I ever did to cooking was boiling up a box of Mac and Cheese.

During the summer of 2010, the scientist in me became keenly aware of the relationship between the food I eat and the way I feel. Fresh whole fruits and veggies bursting with flavor gave me far more energy than any cookie ever could. Not exactly rocket science, but an interesting relationship that was worth exploring. I haven’t given up all processed foods, but I’ve definitely cut back. Even the copious amounts of chocolate I used to consume have been reduced, but I can promise chocolate will always be a part of my life.

I live in New York City, not far from where I grew up. I enjoy jumping on a plane to travel as much as I love exploring the city outside my building’s doorstep. Food, journeys, appreciating what life has to offer… I love writing about it and share all of it here.
